#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER • NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK • Born to an American myth and raised in the wilds of Graceland, Lisa Marie Presley tells her whole story for the first time in this raw, riveting, one-of-a-kind memoir faithfully completed by her daughter, Riley Keough.

A PEOPLE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR

In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir.

A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved.

Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them. About getting dragged screaming out of the bathroom as she ran toward his body on the floor. About living in Los Angeles with her mother, getting sent to school after school, always kicked out, always in trouble. About her singular, lifelong relationship with Danny Keough, about being married to Michael Jackson, what they had in common. About motherhood. About deep addiction. About ever-present grief. Riley knew she had to fulfill her mother’s wish to reveal these memories, incandescent and painful, to the world.

To make her mother known.

This extraordinary book is written in both Lisa Marie’s and Riley’s voices, a mother and daughter communicating—from this world to the one beyond—as they try to heal each other. Profoundly moving and deeply revealing, From Here to the Great Unknown is a book like no other—the last words of the only child of an American icon.

Julia Roberts narrates the late Lisa Marie Presley's writing, and Presley's daughter, the actor Riley Keough, shares her own memories of her mother. Clips of interviews with Presley are interspersed throughout this incredible listening experience. Elvis Presley's only child enlisted her daughter to help tell her story just one month before she died. Keough's voice is beautiful--whisper-soft and at times hollow with sadness--as she shares an intimate look at her mother's life. Roberts does a fantastic job capturing the essence of Presley's writing, her voice bright and excited while describing the fun Presley had as a child at Graceland before Elvis died. Roberts provides a clear, easy-to-follow voice that contrasts with Presley's fast, sometimes slurred words, which can be difficult to discern. A.L.C. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine

Starred review from March 1, 2025

In 2022, as Presley worked to finalize her memoir, she enlisted the help of her daughter, actor Keough (Daisy Jones & the Six). Presley passed away just a month later, leaving her daughter to honor her mother's wish to share her passionate yet complex narrative. As she listened to raw recordings of her mother's stories, Keough discovered tales of joy and heartbreak. Narrated in part by Keogh, with actor Julia Roberts standing in for Presley, the audio explores Presley's tumultuous journey through addiction, motherhood, and grief. This book is not a mere transcription of Presley's recorded memories but a layered memoir enriched by Keough's reflections, which provide context and emotional depth. Keough's sincere performance will draw listeners in as she shares her mother's thoughts on everything from crashing golf carts at Graceland to the suicide of her son Ben. VERDICT An intimate glimpse of Presley's experiences growing up in the shadow of her father Elvis. This memoir is a beautiful tribute to the enduring power of love and the complexity of human experience through enduring family bonds.--Susan McClellan
